Unreleased female Space Marine (1993): the Bryan Ansell collection

During the time I've spent trawling through Bryan Ansell's collection of Citadel Miniatures castings, looking for unusual and unreleased figures, I've uncovered a few gems. The feature of today's post is certainly one of them!

From 1993 I present to you an unreleased female Space Marine:

And here's the view from the rear- check out the hair!

And those high-heel boots! What every fashion-conscious female Space Marine needs:

She bears some iconography on her right shoulder that I'm not familiar with. Admittedly I'm not well-versed in the iconography of the various Space Marine Chapters, but if anyone recognises this design please leave a message in the comments section.

The figure has a slotta tab that is blank on the front and rear, but I can date it to 1993 because this master casting was found in a sealed package of castings that were sent to Bryan with a letter that was dated 1993.

By the way, I have no idea who the sculptor is so if anyone thinks they recognise the style please leave a comment.

  1. Never would have thought I'd have a solid answer to "how does an east-german athlete in power armour look like. ?"
Thanks for providing a pictur eof the answer, I'm unable to tell what the icon stand for though...

  6. The icon is just the 'female' gender symbol with added wings...

  7. It's the female sign with wings that are evocative of the Dark Angels.

  8. The icon appears to be the "female"/Venus symbol with wings.

    That's, uh, pretty lame...

  9. The symbol just seems to be the 'female' venus symbol with some wings added https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_symbol, rather than anything GW ran with

  11. It's got the makings of a good mini, but as it is it's a bit meh :(

First thing I'd do is get rid of the dagger & leg tabard.

Any inkling as to if it'll get released?

    Cheers.

  12. HEY GUYS, IT'S THE FEMALE/VENUS SYMBOL WITH WINGS. NOBODY HAS POINTED IT OUT YET SO I AM.

  13. I also really like her primitive looking bolter.
I don't recognize the shoulder markings, but I wonder if it's female specific, given that it sort of looks like the "Venus" astrological symbol.

  14. I presume this didn't get released as the figure doesn't fit into any GW canon of the time - and at that time (unlike in the late 80's) citadel stuff HAD to fit into GW canon in some way or another. It was this change (in addition to dumbing down rules and chunky sculpting) that saw me move away from GW. I did regret that to an extent because I missed a chance to buy the brilliant DoW figures the Perry's did in the late 90's...

  15. while i can understand the urge to look away from this model, that symbol is probably a small Imperial Cross with a circle above it, hence the circular rivet-type bit in the middle of the + and the line in between the + and the O parts, arranged as ye Olde Terran symbole for Venus.

  16. I messaged Chaz on facebook and asked if it was one of his.

  17. Chaz thought it might be Jez Goodwin.

  18. I think the sculptor is either Naismith or Copplestone. I lean toward Naismith.

  19. It bears a resemblance to Dave Andrews' early Khorne Marines. Ugmo miniature, but an interesting find nonetheless!

  20. This is from the same Era that gave us The Chaos Toilet, Space Santa and the Christmas Marine, it was clearly not intended to be a 'canon' mini but rather a joke mini.

  21. Kev White proclaimed it his on Facebook. I want a squad of these.

  22. It looks like the female symbol fused with the inverted ultramarines omega over wings but the female symbol is very ultra marine ish
